Power shortage hits Mindanao

Power shortage hits Mindanao Double Up

The island of Mindanao is now experiencing power shortage because of the El Nino phenomenon. As of February 23 the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said that the deficiency in Mindanao increased from 183MW to 358 MW. The Davao Light and Power Company already announced and is effective immediately that from 30min scheduled power interruption it is now increased to 1hour.

The power shortage is caused by the hydro-power plants’ reduced capability of generating electricity because of the low elevation of the water level. If the outage will continue many businesses all over the island will suffer specially those that needs electricity for their equipments.
